BRIGHAM CITY -- Fremont High golfer Dylan Chugg was the medalist and the Silver Wolves rolled to victory in the Northern Utah Challenge prep boys golf tournament at Eagle Mountain Golf Course.
Not a bad start for Chugg, the Silver Wolves' promising freshman playing in his first official high school tournament.
Thirteen teams competed for the title, with impressive scores signalling what promises to be a good season for Northern Utah schools.
"I know our region will be competitive," Bonneville High coach Mike Edwards. "It was a good start to the season."
Fremont dropped a sterling 288 team score on the field, while Layton tallied 295, Weber and Bonnevilled tied for third at 301, and Ry finished fifth at 315.
Chugg recorded an impressive five-under par 67 over the Eagle Mountain track, two shot ahead of Fremont teammate Alex Herzog.
Weber's Braden Whitely and Northridge's Dallas Bond shot 71s to tie for third overall, a shot ahead of Weber's Jaden Dunn and Layton's Matthew Bell.
Five golfers shot even-par 72: Bonneville's Carson Park, Layton's Dallin Wilcox and Corbin Chasel, Morgan's McKay Kearsley and Bear River's Triston Hartfield.
Northridge was sixth in the team chase at 317, followed by Syracuse (318), Morgan (320), Sky View (322) and Bear River (323). Host Box Elder (324), Woods Cross (325) and Ogden (341) rounded out the field.
The season-ending state tournaments are set for the first week in October. The 5-A teams will square off at Riverbend GC (Riverton); the 4-A will play at Logan Country Club (Logan); the 3-A will play at Roosevelt GC (Roosevelt); and the 2-A and 1-A will play at Rose Park (Salt Lake City).
