Man arrested at homeless shelter for Layton bank robbery

LAYTON — Detectives with the Layton Police Department have arrested Michael Dale Prothero, 43, for his suspected involvement in a Friday robbery at the Wells Fargo Bank at 2050 N. Main St.

Detectives used leads to track Prothero to Salt Lake City, where they arrested him at an area homeless shelter, according to a news release from Layton police,

Prothero was booked Monday into Davis County Jail on suspicion of robbery, theft, criminal trespass, and for an outstanding warrant out of Weber County.

The robber walked into the bank around 3:40 p.m. and demanded money from the teller, according to Layton police.

The teller handed over money, and the robber then left the bank.

No one was hurt, and as far as police know, he never displayed a weapon. Police did not say how much money was stolen.
