1 dead, 1 injured after TRAX train, car collide

MURRAY — A Utah Transit Authority spokesman says a collision between a TRAX train and a car has left one person dead and another injured.

UTA spokesman Gerry Carpenter says the crash occurred about noon Wednesday in Murray when the driver of a Honda CRV turned left against a red TRAX light while the track lights were flashing and the gates were down.

The accident occurred as the car was southbound on 300 West as it approached 5900 South. The train struck the driver side of the car, pushed it into a concrete barrier and dragged it about 100 yards.

No identities were released. Carpenter says the survivor was transported in stable condition to Intermountain Medical Center.

The tracks were shut down in both directions as crews worked to free the victims.
