Defendant testifies Millard deputy killed by own brother

SPANISH FORK — The man accused of killing a female Millard County sheriff’s deputy is pinning the blame on the victim’s brother.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports Roberto Miramontes Roman took the witness stand Thursday and proclaimed his innocence in the 2010 shooting of deputy Josie Greathouse Fox. He says Fox’s brother Ryan Greathhouse shot his sister with an AK-47 after the two were smoking meth then were pulled over by Fox.

The 37-year-old Fox had stopped the car in the early morning on Jan. 5, 2010 suspecting Roman had been involved in a drug deal just minutes earlier. She was shot with an AK-47 pointed out the driver’s window as she approached the car.

The victim’s family was in the courtroom.

Two detectives previously testified that Roman confessed to the shooting.
