SLC firefighter goes to new heights in proposal

SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake City firefighter went to new heights to win the love of his life, a police officer he met at a traffic accident in October.

Thirty-eight-year-old Kyle Marston proved a modern-day Prince Charming when he arrived, not on horseback, but on a fire truck, to propose Tuesday afternoon to Carlie Wiechman as she sat in a staff meeting downtown.

When she answered a knock on the third-story window, Marston was waiting atop the ladder outside and popped the question.

The 30-year-old spokeswoman for the Salt Lake City Police Department replied with an excited "yes."

There to watch the unusual proposal was Wiechman’s young daughter.

The couple met at an accident scene but Marston called a friend of a friend to track down Wiechman’s friend and get her number.
