OGDEN -- The Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO) has selected Tammy Jacobson, a senior civil engineering major at Utah State University, as the sole recipient of its 2012-2013 Senior Undergraduate Scholarship.
Jacobsen's application was chosen from 28 submittals received from schools across the country. She will receive a $10,000 scholarship for the 2012-2013 academic year, a one-year membership in ASDSO, and a travel stipend to attend Dam Safety 2012, ASDSO's 29th national conference, to be held Sept. 16-21 in Denver, Colo.
Tammy, the daughter of Lee and Julie Jacobson of Ogden, is a teaching assistant for a course in soil mechanics and an undergraduate research assistant on a National Science Foundation funded project on seepage and piping in earthen dams. She is a student chapter member of Sigma Chi and the American Society of Civil Engineers, and participated in ASCE's 2011 Concrete Canoe competition.
For the past three summers, she has been employed by the Uintah-Wasatch-Cache National Forest as a civil engineering technician. Upon completion of her bachelor's degree, she plans to pursue a master's degree in geotechnical engineering.
The ASDSO's Scholarship Program awards up to $10,000 to U.S. citizens enrolled in accredited programs in engineering or related fields and planning careers related to the design, construction, or operation of dams.
