Elim Lutheran Church presents workshop on Alzheimer's

Aug 17 2012 - 4:42pm

OGDEN -- Elim Lutheran Church, 575 23rd St., in Ogden, will present its summer workshop for seniors, "The Last Say," from 9:30 a.m. to noon Monday.

Everyone is invited to attend this event, but it is especially geared for the "wise elders" of the community, a news release states.

Paula Ledford, from Burch Creek Home Care and Hospice, and Laura Owens-Kierstead, from the Alzheimer's Association, will be the presenters.

Owens-Kierstead will talk about the difference between Alzheimer's and other types of dementia and the normal process of aging. She'll share the 10 warning signs of Alzheimer's and provide resources for the diagnosis of the disease.

Ledford will share information about the different resources in the community for those with Alzheimer's, as well as their caregivers.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is supporting this ministry, and Thrivent's representatives will briefly explain their long-term care policies. They will be available to answer any questions attendees may have.

Lunch will be served.

There is no charge for the workshop, but those planning to attend are asked to contact Elim's office by email at office@elimlutheran.org or by calling 801-394-5543 so there will be enough food available for lunch.
