SALT LAKE CITY -- The suspect in the rape and killing of a 6-year-old Utah girl faces new assault charges after another child came forward and accused the man of attacking her, authorities said Friday.
Terry Lee Black, 41, is charged with aggravated murder, kidnapping and rape of a child in the June 26 death of Sierra Newbold, who was sexually assaulted and killed after being abducted from her bedroom in the middle of the night.
Her body was found later that morning in a canal near her West Jordan home.
Black now faces four additional child sex abuse charges after authorities say he assaulted another young girl on two occasions between 2007 and 2009.
The new charges stem from allegations that Black had forced sexual contact with a girl who was about 11 years old at the time, first during a sleepover at his house when the child was visiting Black's daughter, Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill said Friday.
He attacked the same girl about a year later, Gill said.
Black is already held at the Salt Lake County jail on $2 million bond in the Newbold case. He also is charged in a bank robbery and car theft.
Multiple telephone messages left at Black's home have not been returned. His attorney in the robbery case also didn't return messages on Friday. No attorney was listed in court records in the assault and homicide case.
Gill said authorities are encouraging anymore people who claim to have been victimized by Black to come forward.
"I hope there are no more victims," Gill said.
Black attended the same Mormon church as the Newbold family, authorities have said.
According to court records, the child's mother last saw Sierra Newbold at about 10:30 p.m. the night before her body was found. On the morning of June 26, the woman told police she noticed a sliding glass door in the family's home was open and the girl wasn't in her bed.
Police later examined a home surveillance camera and found it showed a man entering the Newbold home at 3:05 a.m. and leaving eight minutes later carrying something. The girl's pink pajamas and undergarments were found in a field a short distance from the home during a search that morning.
Her body was then found floating face down in a nearby canal. An autopsy revealed the girl was sexually assaulted and strangled. The official cause of death was drowning.
