SALT LAKE CITY -- A 61-year-old California man has been arrested after a Utah trooper making a traffic stop reported finding half a million dollars in alleged drug money in a secret truck compartment.
Utah Highway Patrol officials say the trooper stopped a pickup early Wednesday on Interstate 80 in Salt Lake County for traffic violations. The officer's K-9 alerted him to possible drugs, and troopers say they determined an oil tank in the truck was a false compartment.
When investigators found the cash, they contacted officials in California, who searched the man's home in Humboldt County.
The California agents report finding more than 1,200 marijuana plants and almost 300 pounds of marijuana in various stages of preparation.
Larry Treadaway of Garberville, Calif., was booked on suspicion of conspiracy to distribute narcotics and money laundering.
