TREMONTON -- A Chinese man was killed near here Sunday afternoon in a motorcycle crash. The fatal accident happened around 12:19 p.m. on southbound Interstate 15 at Mile Marker 376, which is south of Tremonton.
A news release from Utah Highway Patrol states that a group of four motorcycle riders, who were part of a Chinese tour group visiting the U.S., were traveling southbound on I-15 when a rider in the back of the group lost control of his 2012 Harley-Davidson.
The driver, Bin Gu, 42, from China, lost control and went into the center median of the freeway.
According to the news release, Gu was ejected from the motorcycle as it hit the barrier cable.
Medical personnel transported Gu to Bear River Valley Hospital in Tremonton and then he was taken by helicopter to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden.
Gu was wearing a helmet, but still suffered extensive facial and head trauma upon crashing.
He died about four hours after the crash.
The four had rented motorcycles in Jackson Hole, Wyo., and were riding them to Salt Lake City.
A crash investigation is ongoing, but speed doesn't appear to be a factor.
