OGDEN -- A 35-year-old Ogden woman was charged with arson and drug possession after she led police on a short, high-speed chase, then set her car on fire.
Sheri Lynn Kelm was booked into Weber County Jail late Friday on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, arson, evading arrest and possession of stolen property. Bond was set at more than $25,000 for the combined charges.
Police Lt. Chad Ledford said officers became suspicious that Kelm was dealing drugs out of her cars around 10:30 p.m. Friday in the 1400 block of Washington Boulevard.
When they tried to pull her over, Ledford said, "she took off, went on a high-speed chase. We last saw her at 7th and Wall going westbound," which was when officers terminated the chase because of the danger to others.
Shortly afterward, however, he said officers driving down Century Drive in west Ogden found the car they had been chasing. It was on fire.
"They found her about 100 yards away in a field hiding in some trees. They found some paraphernalia, questioned her, she admitted to using meth," Ledford said. "The car was stolen out of Montana. She suspected it was stolen but said her fiance gave it to her, but she suspected it was stolen because her fiance didn't have a car.
"And she set it on fire because her fiance told her if she needed to get rid of it to set it on fire. She had a can of lighter fluid in the car."
