PLAIN CITY -- Council members gave the nod for law enforcement service to the Weber County Sheriff's Department, at least for the next fiscal year.
Mayor Jay Jenkins said he has talked to Harrisville and Pleasant View, which both have their own police departments, about possibly providing law enforcement service to Plain City, but said they were not interested in doing so.
He said he also talked unsuccessfully to Ogden, and Roy and South Ogden both said they could not provide the service for the cost that Weber County can.
Most of the eight communities in Weber County that contract with the sheriff's department for police services are facing significant cost increases for that service, beginning July 1, 2013.
"We talked about forming a department of our own, but it didn't get off the ground because of the cost issue," said Jenkins.
Councilman Mark Lowther abstained from the vote because he is a lieutenant with the Sheriff's Department
