Walter Darwin “Dubby” Johnston and Carolyn Harris Johnston of Clinton celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a family gathering at the Maddox Ranch House Restaurant.
They were married on Aug. 26, 1952, in Ogden. Their vows were later solemnized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple.
He was born in Brigham City and grew up in Washington Terrace. He graduated from Weber High School in 1952. He joined the U.S. Navy right out of high school and served in the Korean conflict from 1952 to 1956. He earned a bachelor’s degree in logistics in 1978 from Weber State College. He retired from Hill Air Force Base in 1990.
He enjoys golfing with his friends, and spending time with his sons and grandchildren.
She was born in Henefer and grew up in Washington Terrace. She attended schools in Weber County. She worked for the Davis County School District as the media specialist at Sunset Elementary School. She retired in 1995 after 27 years. She has many hobbies and enjoys any kind of handwork. She has made many knitted dish cloths and enjoys giving them as presents.
She likes learning about all technology, and keeping a comfortable home and yard. She especially enjoys spending time with her “Lunch Bunch” friends each week.
Both have held many church callings throughout the years.
Their children and their spouses are Mark and Karen Johnston, West Haven; Craig and Kim Johnston, Clinton; Lanny and Linda Johnston, Centerville. They have seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
