FARMINGTON -- A 52-year-old Ogden man whose car had run out of gas on the side of Interstate 15 is dead after another vehicle veered into the shoulder.
Utah Highway Patrol officials say Enriqui Vealero's Chevy Monte Carlo was pulled off the side of the road near Lagoon in Davis County about 9 p.m. Tuesday.
They say Vealero was filling the tank with fuel from a gas can when a car driven by 41-year-old Bountiful resident Penny Johnson came into the emergency lane and hit him.
Authorities say the impact sent Johnson's vehicle into the travel lanes, where it was hit by a Honda Civic driven by 28-year-old South Weber resident Hugo Gonzalez.
Vealero died at the scene. Troopers say Johnson was taken to a hospital, and Gonzalez was not injured.
