SALT LAKE CITY  - Associated Retail Operations (Macey's, Fresh Market, Dan's, Lin's and Dick's Markets) will present $94,300.83 to the Make-A-Wish Utah Friday

The $94,300.00 check was raised July 1 - August 4 by selling star icons, with strong support from store team members.

"Our wish kid became the star of our store," said Aaron Jones, team lead at Dan's Foothill. "We felt a connection with him after reading his wish story and we wanted to help make as many wishes come true as possible. We even had some healthy competition between stores to see who could raise the most," said Jones.

The proceeds raised by generous store guests will help make the wishes of approximately 19 children with life-threatening illnesses come true, like 18-year-old Jeremiah, facing Ewings Sarcoma. Jeremiah's wish is to go to Hawaii where he is excited to see waterfalls, go kayaking, and soak up the sun.

"This is the most successful fundraiser we've held for Make-A-Wish to date. We recognize that being locally owned is not only about the products we sell, but giving back to the communities that support us" said Lead Training Specialist for Associated Retail Operations and Macey's spokeswoman Donna Porritt. "There is nothing more pure and beautiful than bringing happiness to the sweet wish children and letting them, for a moment, forget about their illness and enjoy their precious life."

Last year (2011) Fresh Market stores led the most successful external fundraising event for Make-A-Wish, partnering with their communities to contribute over $47 thousand in donations.

"We are honored to again contribute to the Make-A-Wish Utah, an organization that lives up to its mission of making a difference in the lives of local children," said Neal Berube, CEO of Associated Food Stores. The Make-A-Wish Foundation has a way of leaving a positive impact on the lives of all those who come in contact with them. We are grateful for the opportunity to help give hope to families within the communities that we serve."
