Looking for a sport in which you can make the Olympic team?
The 3-on-3 World Tour and 3-on-3 World Cup, as well as the Youth World Championships is growing in populatiry, and even groups like FIBA are working behind the scenes to have 3-on-3 basketball recognized as an official sport for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio.
OK, maybe it’s a long shot. But it’s worth a try.
FIBA and the NBA is currently conducting its 10th African edition of the Basketball without Borders global basketball development and community outreach program in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Thabo Sefolosha of the Oklahoma City Thunder will lead a group of NBA players, coaches and trainers in the trip. Sefolosha’s father is a South Africa native.
Among the NBA participants are former Utah Utes coach Jim Boylan (Milwaukee Bucks) and Utah Jazz trainer Brian Zettler.
It was fun to see all the hockey fans in Utah who flocked to the Maverik Center on Thursday to partake of the Stanley Cup tradition.
Per time-honored tradition, the NHL champion — this year the Los Angeles Kings — gives each member of the squad a 24-hour window to celebrate with the Stanley Cup trophy. The Kings won their first NHL title in June.
Utah native Trevor Lewis, who played prep hockey at Brighton High and was key player for the Kings this season, brought the Cup to Utah, making a stop at Maverik Center where more than 6,000 fans flocked to shake his hand, have their photo taken with the trophy, and celebrate the sport. His entourage also made a stop at Rice-Eccles Stadium
