OREM — The Weber State University women’s volleyball team returns to action on Tuesday night when the Wildcats take a trip south to take on in-state rival Utah Valley.
First serve for theTuesday’s match is set for 7 p.m. at Utah Valley’s PE Building.
Weber State is coming off a third-place showing at the Cougar Challenge over the weekend, and is 2-4 overall. The Wildcats defeated Alabama State 3-0, and dropped a five-set decision to Seattle after holding a 2-1 advantage in the match. Host Washington State, which swept the tournament without dropping a set, defeated Weber State 3-0 on Saturday night at Pullman, Wash.
Sophomore Audrey Biggs led the Wildcats with 26 kills and hit .255 with seven blocks during the weekend, while freshman Mariah Katoa had 25 kills and five blocks, and freshman Rebecca Fuchs had 25 kills and 10 digs.
Freshman Audrey Gee also had a strong blocking weekend, finishing with 15 total blocks in just three matches.
As a team, Weber State outblocked its opponents 29-13 during the tourney.
The Wildcats (2-4) and Wolverines (1-3) have met 13 previous times, with Utah Valley leading the series 7-6 after capturing a five-set win in Ogden last season.
Utah Valley enters the match having lost three consecutive matches since winning its season opener against Cal State Northridge.
The Wolverines haven’t played since a 3-0 setback at Utah on Aug. 28, and will be making their home debut.
After Tuesday’s contest, Weber State will head to Hammond, La., to play four matches at the Southeastern Lion Classic on Friday and Saturday.
Tuesday’s match will be shown live on UVU TV (uvu.edu/uvutv) and will air on a tap-delayed basis on Fox College Sports Pacific at 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 6.
