Carolina Orozco Sanchez of Layton will celebrate her 95th birthday with family and friends. On Sept. 1, she spent an intimate dinner with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family and friends may attend a picnic in her honor from noon to 5 p.m. today, Sept. 2, at Sand Ridge Park, 2555 N. Church St., Layton, followed by an open house in Layton.
She was born Sept. 4, 1917, to Damian and Maria Garcia Orozco in Bastrop, Texas. She was raised in Texas and California, and traveled extensively in her youth.
In 1949, she visited Ogden and met Pablo Mejia Sanchez. They were married on Nov. 17, 1949, in Ogden, where they raised their four children. He died June 6, 1988, after 39 years of marriage.
Her interests have included traveling, crocheting, reading, playing cards and going to church. Her travels as an adult have included the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Arches National Park, Monument Valley, Mesa Verde National Park, Hawaii and a cruise to Catalina Island and Ensenada, Mexico. She has enjoyed crocheting items to give as gifts and sharing a good meal and conversation with her family.
Her children and spouses are Maria and Tommie Sandoval of Ogden, Pablo O. and Linda Sanchez of Roy, Bea and Jerry Cravens of Layton, John and Tammie Sanchez of Indiana, and stepdaughter Irene Brown of Layton.
She has 15 grandchildren (two grandchildren are deceased), 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
