Suspicious package prompts Cedar City High School lockdown

CEDAR CITY — Police say the bomb squad used a robot to destroy a suspicious package that forced an hourlong lockdown at Cedar City High School.

Cedar City Police Lt. Darrin Adams says the package destroyed was a cardboard tube filled with dried beans and most likely a makeshift noisemaker or musical instrument dropped by mistake.

The package was found in the school’s parking lot and the lockdown initiated about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Police and fire officials searched the building and found no other packages and allowed students back into the north side of the building.

Adams says the package was detonated about 12:30 p.m.
