OGDEN - Larry H. Miller Group of Companies has given the YMCA of Northern Utah the founding gift towards the Ogden Community Family Center Capital Campaign which will build a new facility in Ogden to be called the Larry H. and Gail Miller Family Community Center.

The campaign is a locally-led volunteer effort to raise $650,000 to build a 5,800 square foot facility which will be located on school property at Lincoln Elementary in Ogden School District.

Once built, the new facility will radically expand the programs and services offered by the YMCA in the Ogden community.

Richard West, CEO of YMCA of Northern Utah said without a dedicated space, the YMCA has been limited in capacity to effectively provide the needed level of service to the community.

"This generous gift from the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies will allow us to partner in new, innovative and collaborative ways with Ogden School District, the City of Ogden and other community groups to better meet their students', families' and greater community needs," West said.

The YMCA has worked hand-in-hand with the Ogden School District, the City of Ogden, United Way of Northern Utah and other community organizations to better understand the needs of this community.

"With the generous gift of a Community Family Center from Larry H. Miller to the YMCA and Ogden our community will benefit from this deepening partnership as the programs offered are able to do more to facilitate family success and community well-being more effectively and efficiently and strengthen our community, said Ogden Mayor Mike Caldwell.

This proposed new facility is the second YMCA facility built in Utah.

"We are excited about the positive ways that this new Larry H. and Gail Miller Family Community Center will impact the Ogden community and can't wait to watch as the YMCA breaks ground in 2013. We are honored to be able to provide this gift that will help to ensure that this building will become a reality. Larry's father was very involved with the YMCA and I know this is something that would please both Larry and his father," said Gail Miller, owner and Chairman of the Board of Larry H. Miller Group of Companies.

Members of the Ogden community involved with this project include: DeWayne Ashmead, chairman of Albion Laboratories Inc; Craig Bielik, community leader; Donna Corby, Ogden School District; Dave Hardman, president, Weber Ogden Chamber; Iain Hueton, Planning, Design and Recreation Development; Ben Johnson, CFO, United Way of Northern Utah; Ed Kleyn, retired Wells Fargo Business Executive; Merrilee Knight, owner, Alphagraphics of Ogden; Madeline MacDonald, Community Member; Julee Smith, Executive Director, Your Community Connection (YCC); Brandon Stephenson, Former City Council Member; Shane Story, Board of Education, Ogden School District; and Noel Zabriskie, former Ogden School District Superintendent.
