CLEARFIELD -- The Lakers did not want to start Region 5 play on a three-match tailspin.
Bonneville wrapped up its preseason Thursday with a 25-12, 25-8, 25-18 non-league victory over the Falcons in 56 minutes.
"We had lost our last two matches to Weber in five sets and Fremont in four sets, so we wanted to finish out preseason with a win," said Lakers senior outside hitter Kelly Roberts. "We played a lot more consistent, not so up-and-down. We didn't let the other team have any (scoring) runs."
Roberts, who celebrated her 17th birthday Saturday, had 11 kills, 10 digs and four aces. Kalyn Sotomayor, who turned 18 on Thursday, had five kills, two solo blocks, one block assist and three digs. Cortney Porter had six kills, two digs and four aces; Tavia Young had five kills, 11 digs and six aces; setter Andy Hancock had 13 assists, four digs and five aces; and setter Elora Penrod had nine assists and four digs for Bonneville (6-7 overall), which had 19 aces and committed 11 service errors.
"When you play a lower-level team, it's tough to keep everyone up after winning the first two sets so decisively," Roberts said. "Our passing was a lot better than in our last match, and our hitting was more consistent. We got most of our serves in.
"We need to stay intense even if the match isn't," she said. "It was a good match for us."
