BEAR RIVER CITY -- A 25-year-old woman is being treated for burns from a flash fire that occurred while she was filling a gas tank on a trash compactor at the Box Elder County Landfill, officials said.
Emergency crews were called at 9:21 a.m. Thursday to the landfill, 5 miles west of Bear River City, said Box Elder Sheriff's Chief Deputy Kevin Potter.
The woman, a landfill employee, was filling a gas tank when a flash fire occurred. Other employees rendered first aid until emergency medical crews arrived. The burns on the upper torso were not life-threatening.
The woman was transported by ambulance to Bear River Hospital in Tremonton, where she was taken by helicopter to the University of Utah Medical Center's burn unit. Her name was withheld pending notification of family.
