Man, 20, charged with hurting boy

NORTH SALT LAKE — Authorities allege that a man investigated by North Salt Lake police physically abused a male child over a six-month period.

Prosecutors have charged Rolando Kalahata Magele, 20, with child abuse, which is a second-degree felony.

A probable cause statement states that North Salt Lake police determined Magele, on multiple occasions from October 2011 to April 2012, punched, kicked, stomped and struck the victim with sticks, a metal cooking spoon and a tennis racquet in the head.

The victim suffered serious injuries and required medical attention, the statement says.
