SANTA CLARA — Officials in Santa Clara say they’re inspecting whether people can return to about 60 homes and 15 businesses that were evacuated after a dike broke and sent floodwaters through town.
City Parks and Recreation Director Brad Hays said a retention pond fed by the Tuacahn Wash filled up after heavy rains Tuesday morning. Authorities ordered homes and businesses below the pond to evacuate about noon, and the dike broke about 45 minutes later.
No injuries have been reported from the flooding.
Hays says Highway 91 through the city remains closed as officials evaluate it.
He says crews are putting sand bags in place to prepare for any further flooding.
