Jet tour boat hits sandbar on Colo. River near Moab

MOAB — Utah authorities say nobody was seriously injured when a Colorado River tour boat with 30 people aboard ran aground on a sandbar.

Grand County sheriff’s officials say the 38-foot jet boat got stuck in the river after settling onto a sandbar about 7:40 p.m. Monday. Authorities say boat operators had steered closer to the riverbank to allow canoes and inner-tube riders to pass by, but got stuck when they tried to resume their course.

Sheriff Steven White says some people have minor injuries after being caught out of their seats while boat operators tried to back the watercraft off the sandbar.

White says several people were taken to a hospital as a precaution, and one person had a possible leg fracture.

He says no passengers ended up in the water.
