PLAIN CITY -- Residents will notice a jump in their sewer rates as council members approved an increase from $13 per month per household to $19 per month per household.
The new rates become effective Nov. 1.
Council members also approved a $2 increase, on top of that, to go into effect July 1, 2013, and another $2 increase on July 2, 2014.
Councilman Mark Lowther had suggested the increases in 2013 and 2014 be only $1 each year. He was the only council member to vote against the rate increases.
Councilman Brent White had told both the public and council that the cost of sewer rates had not been keeping up with inflation. The sewer system has been upgraded in the last few years, as well as the filtering and the chlorination process.
