MORGAN — Halfway through Region 11 play, the Morgan Trojans appear as untouchable as ever.
On Tuesday night the Trojans walked over Ogden in three quick sets, 25-9, 25-8, 25-11, to improve to 6-0 on the year. They have yet to lose a set this season.
Cassidee Lish had 13 kills, six digs and nine service points, including four aces, to lead Morgan’s attack. Junior middle blocker McKenzie Schenk added 12 kills, 13 service points and five aces, while Amanda Porter finished with 23 set assists and 10 digs.
Katie Peterson added 11 digs for the Trojans and Shaylie Duncan had a team-high 15 service points.
With all that firepower, it’s no wonder the Tigers never stood a chance.
“The kids have been working really hard,” Morgan coach Liz Wiscombe said. “They come to practice every day and compete and push each other. We hope we’re getting to where we’re starting to gel and mold together.”
The Trojans now take a short break from region play and will head to southern California for the Beach City Invitational this weekend. The tournament will feature some of the top teams from California as well as international teams.
Morgan’s first match is against a team from Alberta, Canada.
“We’ll see what we’re really made of at this tournament,” Wiscombe said. “It’s a great experience and I hope we come home and reach the goals that we’ve set for ourselves.”
Lish, a senior leader on Morgan’s team, is looking forward to the challenging weekend.
“This trip is going to really bond us as a team,” she said. “We get to go and play against some of the best teams in the country. It’s going to be a great opportunity for us to go and have some good games with them. I think we can do well.”
With Tuesday’s loss, Ogden remains winless in Region 11. The Tigers got solid play out of Chezarae Garcia, Chloe Oki and Madi Kramer, but it wasn’t enough to keep up with the likes of Morgan.
Oki had four kills and two digs; setter/libero Taelynn Abrego had five assists and five digs; and setter Clara Call had four assists, one block and three digs for Ogden (5-8, 0-5).
