HILL AIR FORCE BASE — As Uncle Sam’s perks and benefits for members of the military continue to change, local veterans can get caught up to date this week at Hill Air Force Base.
Hill is hosting its 26th Retiree Appreciation Conference from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at The Landing, formerly known as Club Hill.
The annual conference is free and open to retirees from all branches of the military. It offers veterans a chance to learn about retirement benefits, receive tours of the base and network with other military retirees.
Dan Petrizzo, the base’s Retiree Activities Office director, said the conference will gather all the experts in one room, so retirees can have all the information they need right in front of them.
“This is an incredible opportunity for military retirees and their families to interact with the specialists who administer military retiree benefits, and learn about changes or possible changes to those same benefits,” Petrizzo said.
Base spokesman Rich Essary said several presentations are scheduled for the conference, including the Military Officers Association of America, Social Security Administration, Veteran’s Administration, TRICARE, Defense Finance and Accounting Service, and the Air Force Retiree Council.
More than 30 federal, state and nonprofit organizations will also set up information booths to provide resource materials for event patrons.
Senior leaders from the base will be on hand, in town hall-style meetings, fielding questions on topics ranging from veterans’ health care to how to access the base’s facilities.
Petrizzo said most retirees who use the base live in the Top of Utah, but some come from out of state.
Hill supports more than 16,000 retirees and their families from Utah, the southern regions of Idaho and Wyoming and eastern Nevada.
Veterans attending the conference must bring proper military identification, and their dependants must check in at any of the base’s visitor’s centers.
