OGDEN -- The Davis High girls tennis team claimed the Region 1 championship, but their celebration was a little like Tuesday's weather.
The Darts worked hard to finish off a third straight undefeated region season, but colds and nagging injuries, not to mention strong challenges over the past couple of days from their opponents drained the squad.
"We've had some nagging injuries all year, but I am proud of the girls for earning another successful season," Davis coach Mark Borski said. "They have put in a lot of practice. I knew if they gave good effort they would have a chance."
Led by three-peater Alexis Turley at No. 1 singles, Davis won all three singles division in action at Mount Ogden Park.
Turley topped Northridge's Barielle Goris, 6-1, 6-0.
She is so strong and a great leader," Borski said. "We will miss her influence on this team.
Weber's Nicole Binks edged Layton's Cloe Johnson, 6-1, 3-6, 7-5, for third.
At No. 2 singles, Breezy Turley topped Layton's Joanna Racine for the title, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, Davis' Jensen Emery topped Weber's Mallory McKnight, 6-1, 6-1.
At No. 1 doubles, the Darts' Kendall Sargent and Kira Sparks defeated Syracuse's Tiffany Taggart and Marrissa Eridkson, 6-0, 6-0; while at No. 2 doubles, Davis' Alyssa Sheehan and Liz Watkins beate Syracuse's Sara Harward and Madison Saddler, 6-2, 6-4.
