Fire destroys room in Layton home

LAYTON -- A room in a home in Layton was destroyed by fire Thursday night.

The fire was reported at the house at 1145 E. 3150 North at 8:46 p.m.

The homeowners returned to the residence to find the basement full of smoke, said Layton Fire Battalion Chief Scott Maughan.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the blaze destroyed a room in the basement.

The homeowners used a fire extinguisher to try put the fire out. There were no injuries.

Thirty firefighters responded from Layton, North Davis, Sunset and South Weber fire departments. Some fire investigators were still on the scene at 11:15 p.m. Thursday.
