RIVERDALE -- Riverdale's desire for a historic museum may just save Roy's current museum from having to shut its doors.
"I have heard Riverdale is interested in having a museum," said Roy Historical Foundation Treasurer Carol Harris. "Perhaps now is the time to build on Riverdale city history and preserve Roy's, in a combined effort to preserve the past for residents of both cities."
Harris said the museum, with two floors, an elevator and gift shop, has enough room to add Riverdale displays as well.
Combining the efforts of two cities just may give Roy's museum the shot in the arm it needs, she said.
"The Roy Historical Museum has been struggling to stay afloat for quite some time," Harris said. "Interest has waned over the last few years.
"If we cannot find additional support, we will be forced to close the doors permanently within a very short period of time."
The Roy museum at 5550 S. 1700 West is housed in a log cabin that is actually located in Riverdale city boundaries.
The Roy Historical Foundation owns the museum, not Roy city.
Riverdale city officials will consider the proposal as a future agenda item.
