The Weber State men's and women's cross country teams are back in action this week and will get their first taste of national competition. Both teams will compete at the Roy Griak Invitational this Saturday in Minneapolis, Minn.
The Griak Invitational is in its 27th year and is traditionally one of the top preseason meets in the nation. The meet will take place at the Les Bolstad Golf Course Saturday morning. The men's race will be an 8,000-meter race and the women's race will be 6,000 meters. A total of 18 teams on each side, including some nationally ranked teams, will compete at the meet, hosted by the University of Minnesota.
On the women's side, the Wildcats will be one of the top teams in the meet and come in ranked 16thin the nation in the latest national poll and first in the Mountain region. WSU is coming off a dominating win at the BYU Autumn Classic two weeks ago where the 'Cats finished 1-2-3-5-6-7.

On the men's side, the Wildcats are coming off a title run at the Montana State Invitational where John Coyle captured first place to lead the 'Cats to a one-point win. Junior Jason Nance will compete for the first time this season after battling a knee injury.
"This meet will be a good test for both teams to seewhere we stand," said WSU coach Paul Pilkington. "Our women's team is running very well and we expect Amber and Sarah to both be in the front group. It will also be good for our younger runners to run against some good national competition. On the men's side John is also running well and we will have our full squad together so it will be good to see how we run and compete as a team."
After this weekend the Wildcat teams will split up to compete in separate meets. The women's team will compete at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational on Oct. 12 in Madison, Wis. The men's team will head to Louisville, Ky., for the NCAA Pre-National meet. That will be the final weekend of meets before the Big Sky Championships which will be Oct. 27 in Flagstaff, Arizona.
