Garel R. Larson of Ogden will celebrate his 80th birthday. Family and friends may attend an open house in his honor from 2 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 6 at Mount Ogden Grill, 440 E. 4400 South, South Ogden. No gifts.

The second of three children, he was born Oct. 8, 1932, in Roosevelt to Ross and Oral Larson. He moved to Ogden when he was 8 years old. He graduated from Weber High School and attended Weber State College. He served in the Army during the Korean War.

He married Marylin Casteel on Dec. 21, 1954, in Elko, Nev. Their vows were later solemnized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 57 years before she died in February 2011.

Together they raised three children: Marvin Larson, Bambi Ormond and MaryAnn Koch. He has five grandchildren, one great-grandson and four step-grandchildren.

He worked for Utah Power & Light Co. as a lineman and troubleshooter, retiring in 1987 after 33 years.

He enjoys gardening, fishing, spending time with his family, coffee with the “Men of Wisdom,” and says that he doesn’t like golf.
