Preston OKs plan to memorialize fallen soldier

PRESTON, Idaho — City leaders have approved plans for a small memorial honoring a southern Idaho soldier killed in Afghanistan.

The Herald Journal of Logan reports a granite bench and a lighted flagpole inside City Park will honor Cody Moosman.

The 24-year-old Army specialist was killed in Afghanistan July 3. He graduated from Franklin County High School and joined the military in May 2010.

He was assigned to a battalion based in Fort Riley, Kan.

Preston Mayor Lee Hendrickson told the newspaper he’s supporting the memorial, but didn’t provide an official timeline for constructing it.

He says the bench design will accommodate other names, and says he wants to make sure families of other fallen veterans don’t feel left out of city memorials.
