SUNSET -- An 85-year-old man died while crossing a busy street around 7 a.m. Monday.
A full-size Chevrolet truck traveling northbound on Main Street near 2300 North struck the victim, who was jaywalking, said Sunset Police Lt. Bruce Arbogast.
The driver was traveling at the speed limit in a 45 mph zone and had the right of way, Arbogast said.
He said the victim died at the scene, not more than 10 feet from an intersection.
Police have identified the victim, a Sunset resident, but are waiting until the family is notified before releasing his name.
Arbogast warns pedestrians not to jaywalk, especially in high-speed, high-traffic areas.
"Use marked crosswalks with correct signals to cross," he said.
