Editor,

I recently read about USTAR yet nothing as to the benefits or rate of return for the investment it proposed in the beginning. In March 23, 2006, I wrote the following statements in a letter to the editor: "In March 14 news a law was signed concerning USTAR and 69 million were allocated by the state to expand commercial research. This same article states that they believe 122,000 jobs and $4.9 billion may follow from this investment."

So when and where can I receive a report of the projects and the peoples’ return on such investment? Please do not hold your breath as I have asked and written the then governor and received nothing other than unreturned phone calls and unanswered letters.

The money promised was taken from the taxpayers to give entitlements to an entity that still in not defined other that the universities. Yet, the taxpayer has never been informed on our return for the investment nor the jobs that were created. So again I ask to see a report as this entitlement as to whom receives the total money allocated by this law and their results.

I do believe attached to the original entitlement were salaries of state officers, but nothing about the taxpayers’ benefits. This is why we need representatives both at the state and national levels who are not beholden to lobbyists.
