SOUTH SALT LAKE — The city of South Salt Lake says a former high school there will be developed into a motion picture and television production facility.
The city said in a statement Tuesday that the $40 million investment in the buildings and the site will establish South Salt Lake as a film-friendly city.
The developer, Woodbury Corp. will renovate the historic Granite High School buildings to be used as settings in future films along with its partner, Utah film company Redman Movies and Stories. The project also involves constructing 90,000 square feet of new motion picture sound stages and office and retail space.
The project was made possible in part by legislation allowing Utah cities to purchase surplus properties of school districts for economic development purposes, not strictly for community facilities.
