FARMINGTON -- A 26-year-old man who admitted to sexually assaulting and choking his ex-girlfriend was sentenced to serve a year in Davis County Jail.
Ethan Ezell Elvoid-Hall appeared in 2nd District Court on Tuesday before Judge David Connors.
Connors sentenced Elvoid-Hall to also serve three years of probation.
Elvoid-Hall pleaded guilty Aug. 21 to second-degree felony burglary, third-degree felony aggravated assault and class A misdemeanor sexual battery.
Elvoid-Hall admitted to entering his ex-girlfriend's home in Kaysville on May 22 and choking her during a fight, then sexually assaulting her, according to statement in support of the guilty plea filed in 2nd District Court.
Elvoid-Hall also pleaded guilty Aug. 21 to third-degree felony theft. He admitted to taking several DVDs from the Sam's Club store in Layton on March 22 and leaving the store without paying.
Elvoid-Hall was also sentenced to serve one year in jail and three years' probation for the theft charge.
Connors ordered him to serve the sentences concurrently. He also gave Elvoid-Hall credit for the time he has served in jail since his arrest May 21.
Kaysville police said Elvoid-Hall broke through a basement window of his ex-girlfriend's home May 21.
Police also said the woman tried to leave the home several times, but Elvoid-Hall kept her in the house. He also took her cellphone away from her as she tried to call 911.
She finally was able to leave the home through a window and called police from a neighbor's home.
Police found Elvoid-Hall walking down the street.
The woman was taken to a hospital where she was treated for minor injuries and was examined by a forensics nurse.
