2 arrested after Porsche carjacking, SLC chase

SALT LAKE CITY — Two men have been arrested after allegedly taking a man’s Porsche 911 at gunpoint and leading police on a high-speed chase through Salt Lake City.

Police arrested 28-year-old Matthew Cardenas and 24-year-old Tyler Williams a little before 2 p.m. Friday, after police say the pair ditched the sports car and tried to hide.

Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal says Williams surrendered after being found behind a shed, while Cardenas was taken into custody after an officer used a Taser on him.

The alleged carjacking victim tells the Deseret News he had just arrived at work when a truck pulled up behind him and the passenger demanded his cell phone, wallet and keys.

Authorities say the suspects drove off in the Porsche and truck, and weren’t arrested until several hours later.
