ROY — With a playoff berth in their sights, the Royals faltered.
Roy High jumped out to a 21-0 lead at home on Friday night, but the Sky View Bobcats came roaring back to post a heart-stopping 24-21 win and jump back into a chase for the final 4-A playoff berth out of Region 5.
The Royals led 14-0 at the half, thanks to a pair of scoring passes. Tyler Skidmore and Justin Weaver hooked up on a 99-yard TD strike; later Roy QB Garrett Bowmand and Cody Hobbs combined for a 37-yard scoring pass.
Connor McGuire capped Roy’s scoring with a 2-yard TD plunge.
The Bobcats’ Braxton Godderidge and Daniel Lemon went to work, hooking on TD pass plays of 20, 9 and 18 yards. The final score gave Sky View the lead.
Nelson Griffiths kicked a 35-yard field goal to go with three PATs.
Roy and Sky View are now tied for the final playoff spot at 1-3. The Bobcats play Bonneville (0-4) next week, while the Royals play league-leading Mountain Crest.
• MOUNTAIN CREST 17, LOGAN 10: At Logan, the host Grizzlies had a 10-0 halftime lead, but the Mustangs rumbled back to pick up the win in the battle for Region 5 supremacy.
An impressive offensive effort from Eddy Hall boosted Mountain Crest. Hall passed 4-for-6 for 57 yards and added 35 carries for 197 yards. He had both touchdowns for the Mustangs.
Laulu-Pututau Faimafili snatched three catches for 49 yards. Weston Casey drilled a 38-yard field goal to tie the score early in the fourth quarter.
Logan’s Luke Falk and Hagen Andersen hooked up on a 13-yard TD pass early in the second quarter, and Angel Reyes kicked a 38-yard field goal for the 10-0 lead.
