Jon Huntsman Sr. endorses Utah’s Matheson

SALT LAKE CITY — Republican businessman and billionaire philanthropist Jon Huntsman Sr. is endorsing Utah’s only Democrat in Congress.

Huntsman, in a prepared statement, called Rep. Jim Matheson a conservative Democrat who represents the state “very well” and puts the state’s interests first.

Matheson, who’s locked in a tight race with Republican Mia Love, says his family and the Huntsmans “have long shared the values of giving back to the community and working in a bipartisan way to solve problems and achieve progress.”

According to another family member, Huntsman’s son, former GOP presidential candidate and Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr., has no plans to endorse any candidate this election.

But another son, Huntsman Cancer Foundation President and CEO David Huntsman, also endorsed Matheson.
