Allan and Karlene Tingey

Allan and Karlene Tingey of Willard celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their family on Sept. 27. The high school sweethearts were married on Sept. 27, 1962, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logan Temple.

Allan, son of Reid and Rosella Tingey, was raised in Brigham City. Karlene, daughter of Jens and Irene Simonsen, was raised in Willard. Both attended Box Elder High School, where they met and fell in love. After graduation, he attended Weber College while she pursued a cosmetology license from Painter’s Beauty School.

After they were married, they made their home in Willard. Later he began working for the federal government and continued his career in various positions for the next 29 years. He retired from Defense Depot Ogden. Now he enjoys spending his days hunting, fishing and golfing with family and friends.

They raised their four children in Willard, where they have enjoyed their friends and neighborhood for 50 years. After their children were raised, she became a teacher’s aide with the Box Elder School District, working with special needs children in elementary through middle school. She says that she had many wonderful experiences and developed friendships with the children for whom she cared. She retired after 16 years. She enjoys reading, knitting and spending time with family, especially their 11 grandchildren.

Since retirement, they have enjoyed spending summer months golfing in Star Valley, Wyo., and have many friends they made while there during the past 15 years.

Their children and spouses are Allyson and Dean Child, Ryan and KayAnn Tingey, Lara Tingey and Cory Craig, and Kortney and Mark Tolman.
