Saturday afternoon the sun was shining, the weather was beautiful and it was going to be a great day for the Big A Show in downtown Salt Lake City at the Gallivan Center.
The eight bands that performed on Sept. 29 were Eve 6, Dead Sara, The Wombats, The Used, Imagine Dragons, Grouplove, Awolnation and Neon Trees. These bands sure rocked everyone's socks off while being very classy and clean.
The concert started at 1 p.m. and held every audience member captivated until 8:30 that night. First, this concert was so organized. The lines to get in were very well planned; one didn't have to worry about people cutting or the line moving slowly. Actually, the line moved very quickly; I was in line for about five minutes and, bam!, I was in and ready to party.
Also, it's always a plus to have nice restrooms when at a public event. The Gallivan Center had just that and they were spotless. Also, a water station was offered for endless refills of ice cold water, which was very nice after singing your heart out for your favorite band.
Finally, for those who wanted to smoke there were spots available to do so. But the super nice thing is they were out of the way, so others did not have to suffer from secondhand smoke.
Next, the entertainment at the Big A Show was awesome! The first band to perform and wow the crowd was Dead Sara. I wasn't the biggest fan of this band, basically because I didn't enjoy their sound. But for the kind of music they performed they were great.
Next up was The Wombats. I instantly fell in love with this band after the performance of their original songs "Jump Into The Fog" and "Tokyo." They were quite the performers and were extremely charming. I guess people are always charming when they are from England and have attractive accents. As soon as I got home I bought as many Wombat songs as I could find.
Next was Grouplove, which I didn't know too much about. They were OK, but definitely the band that stole the show came next, Imagine Dragons. They were so AMAZING! I'm already a huge fan, but their performance definitely sealed my love for the band. They performed one of their biggest hits, "Radioactive," and the crowd went crazy! Everyone was singing along with the song, clapping, jumping up and down, and having a fantastic time. Also, Imagine Dragons played "On Top Of The World"; this number is so happy and so was the crowd. Everyone had huge smiles on their faces as soon as the music started.
Imagine Dragons was so entertaining and extremely fun to watch. The band got everyone involved, which is always a crowd pleaser. I loved them so much!
Awolnation was next and they were also very good. When they performed "Sail," the crowd went nuts. Everyone was jumping up and down and screaming along with the lyrics. This group was very entertaining as well, by getting the crowd involved and putting on a great show.
Up next was The Used, but they definitely didn't do as well as Imagine Dragons or Awolnation. The Used are not that good to see live honestly, which is too bad. They did play one song that I like called "I Caught Fire," but they didn't sound so great and the vocals were very jumbled up and hard to understand.
The concert ended with Neon Trees, who did a very good job as well, but there was no way they could beat Imagine Dragons or Awolnation. Those two bands stole the show! Imagine Dragons was the band to see because it was their big debut in Utah, so everyone was excited to watch them perform. Plus, most of the people at the concert knew all of the Imagine Dragon songs. Also, both bands sounded great live and stayed true to the recordings of their songs that everyone fell in love with, while still adding some twists that emphasized their performances.
Overall, I had a very enjoyable experience and the atmosphere at this concert was perfect for having a good time. I will definitely be at the Big A Show next year.
