Wayne Simpson

Wayne G. Simpson of Clinton will celebrate his 95th birthday. Family and friends may attend an open house in his honor from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at his residence, 612 N. 1420 West.

He was born in Ogden on Oct. 10, 1917, to George and Gladys Hanks Simpson.

He married Ruth Stoddard Jan. 30, 1940. She died in 1969. He then married Maurine Richards; they later divorced. He later married Karma Hill on March 21, 1989.

He graduated from Ogden High School, where he was the captain of the ROTC Band. He was in the 222nd Field Artillery Band. He retired from Hill Air Force Base as an air traffic control specialist. He owned and operated a flight school for 30 years at the Ogden Airport. For 10 years, he was “Santa” at the Newgate and Layton Hills malls. He spent four years as a fishing and hunting outfitter in Alaska.

His interests included 75 years of daily exercise and water aerobics. He also enjoyed making rock bird houses and flower planters.

His children and spouses are Deloris Peterson, Jeanne Stites, MaryAnn and Dean Cardon, and Robert and Carol Simpson. He has 18 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. His stepchildren are Diane Higley (deceased), Sue and Keith Hodson, Kenneth Farr, Sandy and Brent Cunningham, and Sally and Ted Phelps. He also has 12 step-grandchildren and 19 step-great-grandchildren.
