Equipment loan to W. Bountiful officer leads to charge against UHP trooper

SALT LAKE CITY — Retired Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Martin Turner is accused of illegally loaning out a laser speed detector and a Taser to a West Bountiful police officer.

Salt Lake District Attorney Sim Gill said Turner had been hoarding the equipment, which rightfully belonged the Utah Highway Patrol. The property is valued at about $4,000.

The Salt Lake District Attorney’s Office has charged Turner with one count of misappropriation, a class A misdemeanor.

Gill said he does not know what the equipment was used for.
