BOUNTIFUL — Farmington Mayor Scott Harbertson made good on a friendly wager with Bountiful Councilwoman Beth Holbrook Tuesday night, donning a University of Utah jersey and singing "Utah Man" at the beginning of a city council meeting, after the Cougars lost to the Utes earlier this year.
Harbertson and Holbrook made the wager on the outcome of the BYU-Utah football game during recent meetings of the Utah League of Cities and Towns, where both served on a leadership board.
Acting as mayor pro tem, Holbrook called on the Farmington leader to pay up and she said he managed to pull off the Utah fight song, fairly well.
"He hit most of the notes," said Holbrook, a University of Utah grad.
Holbrook noted she made the bet with the Farmington executive just days after the Utes had lost in overtime to Utah State. She also said she recorded the performance, so it may make its way onto social media.
Harbertson said he had to borrow a jersey from a neighbor, Charles Walker who played for the Utes. Harbertson said he never dreamed he’d lose the wager.
"I thought it was going to be a sure deal," the Farmington executive said.
Harbertson attended BYU for 3 1/2 years.
