I have contacted Ogden City and UDOT about the garbage on 1-15, which includes the on-ramps and off-ramps. I received a letter stating, "UDOT Region one maintains 2655 miles of state highways within the six northern most counties in utah. There, maintenance programs have been prioritized to ensure that those efforts that keep traffic moving smoothly and efficiently receive the highest priority. While trash and litter removal is important to all of us, it is a lower priority than other activities which directly affect the movement of traffic. UDOT has a limited number of employees in this region that can be tasked to any one project, which means we have to be as efficient as possible to keep up with all of the summer maintenance work to be done."
That was part of the statement regarding the trash in Weber County. I see that Davis County has a work crew once in a while working in the medians. They are supervised by deputies with firearms. Why not have this program in Weber County and around the state?
I lived in Florida and it was not uncommon to see these prisoners working in the medians and roadways to maintain them and gain some freedom. If I had that amount of garbage in my yard you can bet your bottom dollar I would be having Ogden city sending me a nasty-gram about my property and threatening me with fines.
Why shouldn't UDOT be held to the same standards as city and county folks?
