Utah funeral set for border patrol agent Thursday

OREM — Funeral services are set for Thursday morning for a U.S. Border Patrol agent shot last week in southern Arizona.

Nicholas Ivie will be remembered at a service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. This is the second service for Ivie. A funeral was also held in Arizona on Monday.

Ivie grew up in Provo, Utah. He was shot to death last week near the Mexican border as three agents responded to an alarm that was triggered by a sensor aimed at detecting smugglers. A second agent was wounded.

The FBI says it appears the agents opened fire on each other in a case of friendly fire.

Utah Gov. Gary Herbert ordered flags be flown at half-staff Thursday in Ivie’s honor.
