LDS Church halts plan for 9-story training center

PROVO — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints says it’s abandoning its current plan for a nine-story building at the Provo Missionary Training Center.

Church officials said Friday that the training center needs to be expanded, but they want to find a solution that builds on long-standing relationships with the community.

Mormon leaders say the existing buildings at the center are showing their age, with heating and air conditioning breaking down and out-of-date technology.

But the nine-story project had been hotly disputed by neighbors, who argued the tall building would lower property values and block their views.
