OGDEN -- The Wildcats ran into a determined band of Vikings on Saturday night and didn't have an answer.
League co-leading Portland State bounced back from its first conference loss of the year to defeat the Weber State University women's volleyball team 25-18, 25-9, 25-12 in Big Sky Conference action at Swenson Gym.
Redshirt freshman Mariah Katoa lead Weber State with eight kills, but the Wildcats hit just .011 and committed 14 receiving errors.
Senior middle blocker Dama Cox and sophomore outside hitter Audrey Biggs each had five kills for the Wildcats, while senior libero Laurel Bodily had 12 digs. Freshman setter Whitney Hunt had 11 assists and seven digs.
Weber State fell to 2-8 in Big Sky action as the conference season hit the halfway point and 8-13 overall.
Portland State improved to 9-1 in league, 13-8 overall.
The Wildcats will return to action on Thursday as the head back out on the road for four straight matches, beginning at Northern Arizona.
* WSU MEN RUN 22ND: The Weber State men's cross country team competed it the final meet before the Big Sky Championships as the team ran at the NCAA Pre-National meet Saturday in Louisville, Ky.
The Wildcat men's team finished 22nd overall in the men's 8K Red race at the E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, which will be the site of next month's NCAA championships.
Weber State totaled 584 points to finish 22nd overall in the race that included 40 teams with several nationally ranked teams.
Colorado won the men's red race with 72 points, followed by BYU, Oregon, Florida State and Duke.
Once again Weber State was led by senior John Coyle who finished 42nd overall with a time of 23:58.9 on the 8K course. Coyle has led Weber State in all four meets this season.
Junior Mike Hardy was WSU's second runner, taking 60th with a time of 24:06.6 and sophomore Trevor Ricks took 92nd at 24:25.1.
Weber State's next runner was junior Jason Nance who finished 179th in just his second race of the season. He posted a time of 25:06.2. Thomas Worob was WSU's fifth runner at 25:24.0 to claim 211th place. The meet included nearly 300 athletes.
On Friday, the 13th-ranked Weber State women finished 11th at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational in Madison, Wis.
The Wildcats will now prepare for the Big Sky Championships which will be held Oct. 27 in Flagstaff, Ariz.
